About
Decorate your heart out
Hi!
I’m Kat. I have loved interior design & architecture ever since I can remember.
The decorated minimalist is something that has been brewing in me for a long time. I love maximalist interiors that are beautifully styled, full of colour, patterns, books & interesting things your kids found on their last nature hike.
But unless all of these things are in their perfectly curated place I quickly get overwhelmed, overstimulated & find myself short tempered & anxious. My home turns from a comforting, beautiful place to place drains my mental resources.
This ‘quirk’ of mine went from barely noticeable to out of control after the arrival of my second kid. (Turns out I actually have ADHD). Then almost exploded when we brought home a dog (who was secretly a small bear) & ate EVERYTHING for over a year. Still chews on stuff to this day.
I know there has to be a way to have an interesting, decorated, welcoming home in a way that does not create anxiety and stress when things are out of place. I am determined to find it.
Join me at decorated minimalist to figure this out together.
What I do
My goal is to help families integrate routines, chore systems, to do’s & coping skills directly into home decor.
Why not have a piece of art that reminds you of a coping skill or technique you need reminding to use? In a place you often need it?
Why not make chore charts, calendars & routines pretty enough that we don’t mind looking at it?
Why not base our choices around ideas that will help keep us busy parents above water instead of dragging us down with extra work?
I love hunting far and wide, often in the most unlikely places to bring creative & innovative ideas to family homes. How our homes look and function is so important to the quality of our lives. Let’s use the opportunity to get every little bit of help we can to make our lives better.
